Wrag Barn Golf Club

27th May 2020

I’ve loved being able to play golf over the past few weeks, it’s so much easier with a bit of run on the ball and the fresh air and fun of a good walk spoilt really lifts the spirits.

Having enjoyed the opportunity to get onto the course, there is now an element of ‘what next’ and can we plan for competitions and socialising after golf?  This issue came to light last Friday when I went out in 2 x2 tee times with friends. We decided to have a competition between each pair and wrote down our best stableford score for each hole; coming off the course and discovering that one pair had played a complete blinder and wanting to celebrate – we rather stood and looked at each other saying ‘what now, such a shame we can’t have a drink’ at which point Sarah lowered her voice a few semitones and said ‘yes, I rather fancy some Nobby’s nuts.....’

We didn’t hang around and dispersed to our cars feeling rather hollow. The point is; the week before we’d all come off the course declaring how lucky we were to play golf and it didn’t take long for us to want more, let’s see what happens.

Something that has been introduced in addition to playing recreational golf is the ability to put in supplementary cards for handicap.  To facilitate this there are a few things to take into account and simply put, the way forward is:

Declare your intention to play a supplementary round

Let the pro shop or Tracey know via email or text that you intend to put in a supplementary card.

01793 766027 or ian@ianridsdalegolf.co.uk

01793 861327 or manager@wragbarn.com

Keep score of the number of strokes per hole either on your phone or on a piece of paper not necessarily a score card and have these agreed by your playing partner verbally or via text/email.

Send your scores to:

ian@ianridsdalegolf.co.uk or manager@wragbarn.com

While playing, there are a few local rules:

Don’t touch the flag
If your ball lands in a footprint in a bunker you can move it within 6 inches and place it still in the sand no nearer the hole – no smoothing of the sand or anything helpful, its golf after all!
No gimmies

There are more details and explanations on the notice board outside the pro shop as these are the bare essentials and there will be something missing or might need further explanation.

In the meantime, enjoy your golf.
