Lady Captains Drive in 2023

Subzero temperatures didn’t deter a large field of golfers from joining in the Lady Captain’s Drive In competition on Wednesday 25th January. There were some unusual bounces and cold fingers but spirits were high and everyone accepted the unusual conditions. Fully restored after a bowl of hot soup, the Ladies section assembled for the presentation of hard won prizes and the AGM. During the AGM, committee members presented their reports, new members were voted on to the committee and the Captaincy was handed over from this year’s Captain Jac Brownsell to next year’s Captain Suzanne Hunt.

Special mention to the Ladies who represented Wrag Barn and won the Wiltshire Scratch A League. An amazing result and huge thanks to Captain Gill Loughrey and her team of: Sheila McNeil, Ashleigh Thorne, Katie Walls, Ellie Webster, Pam Megarry, Molly Barby, Sammy Walls, and Sarah North. The shield and vase were presented to Sheila McNeil and the team by Wiltshire Golf Director Verity Manners.

Every Lady Captain raises funds for a charity during her year and Jac Brownsell was pleased to announce that she had raised £3014.00 for Asthma UK. Suzanne is raising money for Kidney research UK and started her campaign by selling plant labels which were distributed across the first fairway; she then drove a ball off the first tee and was very relieved that it flew down the fairway and landed near a stick bearing the name Anne Mullane who will no doubt enjoy her prize of a bottle of wine.

We are all looking forward to another  year of fun and competitive golf at Wrag Barn and are hugely grateful for all the hard work which the committee and Captain’s put into make it happen.
