This summer at Wrag Barn has been packed with competitive golf, great stories, and a few surprise twists along the way. Across the four Club Championships – Men’s, Ladies’, Juniors, and the main Club Championships – our members put on a brilliant display of skill, determination and sportsmanship.
Club Championships
What a day for the Club Championships. 89 competitors took on 36 holes in glorious sunshine and showed us all the best of Wrag Barn golf.
The day was made even more special thanks to our sponsors RCM Catering, our competition organisers, greenkeeping team, and staff who kept everyone fuelled and refreshed.
There was drama in the Nett competition. Ruben Chauhan-Drane had done enough to win, but as he also picked up third gross prize, the trophy was passed to his dad, Brian. In true sporting spirit, Brian ensured Ruben’s name would still be remembered on the silverware. And after a software hiccup during the presentation, we’re delighted to now properly celebrate Christian Stevens, who tied on 142 – a superb achievement.
The big title went to last year’s Junior Captain, Louis McDiarmid, who is now our 2025 Club Champion. A fantastic achievement and thoroughly deserved. As if that wasn’t enough, the Red Arrows treated us to a flypast during the prizegiving – a perfect ending.
Men’s Championships
The Men’s Championships saw a full field of 100 players battle through two tough days – and this time, the weather didn’t play ball. After weeks of dry conditions, the rain and wind arrived just in time to test every shot.
Day one leader Lee Parker couldn’t quite hold on, and it was Guy Drayton who held his nerve with rounds of 75 and 72 to finish on 147 and claim the title.
The competition was fierce across both gross and nett divisions, with close scores and countbacks deciding the podium places. A big thank you goes to Toyota Fish Brothers Swindon for sponsoring the event, and once again to our teams behind the scenes for keeping everything running smoothly despite the challenging conditions.
Ladies’ Championships
23 ladies took to the course for their 36-hole Championships, played over two days. The sunshine was back, and so was the quality golf.
Huge congratulations to Olivia Bannon, who won the gross competition with a total of 152, followed by Gill Loughrey on 155 and Lauren Hulston on 160. Olivia’s consistency shone through and she took home the main prize in style.
The nett competition was just as close. Jan Young won the Pat Holgate Trophy with 139, narrowly ahead of Molly Barby (140) and Wendy Smith (146).
Thanks go to the Ladies Committee for running the event, our catering team for a brilliant cream tea, and our greenkeepers for setting up the course beautifully.
Junior Championships
The main event of Junior Week is the Junior Championships, and this year was as exciting as ever.
Defending champion Riley Banks found himself six shots behind at the halfway stage but produced a level-par afternoon round to storm back and retain the trophy. A calm and clinical performance from a player who knows how to hold his nerve until the final putt.
It was heartbreak for Tweedy, who was right in the mix until a double bogey on the 18th cost him the title, leaving him second. Noah Ridsdale completed the top three.
In the nett competition, congratulations to Eddie Keen, this year’s Net Champion, with Ittai Sibanda in second – and celebrating a spectacular hole-in-one on the 12th.
A Summer of Champions
From nail-biting finishes to family silverware, comeback stories, and Red Arrows overhead, the 2025 Championships at Wrag Barn will be remembered for years to come.
A huge thank you to our sponsors, volunteers, committees, staff, and of course, the players who made it all happen.
Here’s to another year of fantastic golf at Wrag Barn.
