One of my favourite weeks of the year is Junior Week and one of my favourite evenings is Junior Week Presentation Night, which sadly we won’t be hosting this year.
The common themes throughout the social media posts and the general conduct involving our juniors are:
It doesn’t matter how filthy the weather is – they still want to play.
They acknowledge that golf doesn’t always go to plan, but take the time to encourage and congratulate others.
Their achievements are amazing!
They are supported by stoic parents who organise competitions, stand in the freezing cold and rain ball spotting, or extreme heat supplying water and sun cream; it’s always fatal naming names because someone usually gets left out, but special mention to Alan Kavanagh and Brian Drane who organise the Junior and Cadet sections. The club pros must have a shout out for their expertise and enthusiastic support for all the juniors; they have the gift of harnessing natural talent and producing some high performing individuals.

Meanwhile, back in the Clubhouse, we are looking at the business on the books for the rest of the year which has been cancelled or postponed and have taken steps to reduce our Food and Beverage Department workforce to cut costs. Not easy when you are a small team and we hope that next year we will be able to revert to providing local employment again.
Ben and Simon have developed a new menu for the Spike Bar and we have enrolled in the Eat out to Help out scheme, so it’s a perfect opportunity to try the new menu on a Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday between 8am-3pm. Where possible food is sourced locally and we will have a broad selection of cakes including, vegan and low gluten options.
Look forward to seeing you
