Junior Presentation Evening at Wrag Barn

Junior Presentation Evening is always one of the highlights of our year at Wrag Barn — and this summer’s celebration was no exception. It was a night filled with stories of achievement, laughter, farewells and plenty of pride in our junior section.

We started by recognising some outstanding milestones. Newman and Ittai were both awarded hole-in-one ties, and Simon Perry was congratulated on his hole in one at Manor House. Ellie equalled the course record off the forward tees, and Riley retained his title of Junior Champion for the second year running. Across the board we saw a raft of impressive handicap cuts — proof of just how much hard work and dedication our juniors are putting into their game.

This evening was also tinged with a little sadness as we said goodbye to Ellie, who is heading to America to continue her studies. We’ll miss her hugely but wish her every success in this exciting new chapter.

We also say farewell to a number of other Juniors as they are over the age of 18 notably our wonderful Junior Captain Jake Kavanagh who has led from the front with dedication and resilience and James Tweed who always has a cheerful smile, Charlie Fellows, James Biggs and Theo Ankarcrona whose progress we’ve enjoyed following.

Other familiar names featured regularly in the trophies this year:

Thomas Hutton – Toby Drayton Trophy
Jacob Hutton – The Rody Cup
Bobby Keen (1st) & Eddie Keen (2nd) – The McDonald Trophy
Charlie Fellows – The Malham Trophy

One of the highlights of the season is always the Juniors vs Men match, and this year’s game lived up to tradition — competitive, good-natured, and a clear win for the Juniors at 9.5 to 2.5.

Meanwhile, the Cadets had a brilliant week of coaching and competitions. With players ranging from as young as 4 upwards, they took part in a variety of formats — some teaming up with adults including parents and members of the Ladies section, others competing individually. The standout Cadet was Jacob Scarrott, who has made a fantastic start to his golfing journey and no doubt has a bright future ahead.

None of this would happen without the tireless support of our volunteers. We owe a huge thank you to Brian and Alan for their years of dedication running the Cadets and Juniors. We’re delighted to welcome Chris Hutton as our new Junior Organiser, and Rich Scarrott and his team who will now be leading the Cadets. With their energy and commitment, the future of junior golf at Wrag Barn looks very bright indeed.

To everyone who supports, encourages and teaches — Junior Week wouldn’t happen without you. Thank you.
