What a weekend we’ve had at Wrag Barn for the Ladies’ Championships – two days, 36 holes and 23 players giving it their all.
Huge congratulations to Olivia Bannon, who lifted the gross prize with a total of 152. Gill Loughrey followed in second with 155, and Lauren Hulston took third on 160. Olivia’s win was well deserved after some brilliant golf across both days.
In the net competition, the Pat Holgate Trophy went to Jan Young with a score of 139. Molly Barby was just behind on 140, and Wendy Smith claimed third with 146. Some of those rounds were so good we wouldn’t be surprised if a few handicaps are coming down.
A big thank you goes to our catering team for the cream tea and to the greenkeepers for presenting the course in such fine condition. We’re also hugely grateful to the Ladies Committee – all volunteers – for the time and effort they put into running the event.
The week didn’t stop there. On Wednesday we played the Daphne Willmett Bowl, an 18-hole medal competition that originally ran alongside the Ladies’ Championship when it was played in a single day and those eligible to take part were in the 1st and 2nd division. The Copper Cup was played for by ladies in the 3rd division.
This year, in the Willmett Bowl, Carolyn, Muriel and Tracey swept the board with cracking scores, in the 3rd division the champion was Christine Keep with an amazing 41 stableford points and honestly 99% of the field deserve a pat on the back. As for the four golf balls I put in the pond… if you fish them out, they’re yours – they clearly weren’t listening to me!
All in all, a brilliant week of golf, laughter and good company.
